Backpaker offer tips on traveling in Peru

Money: There are no problems when switching from €, the courses are related to the road as in the exchange offices. You get a better rate at the ATM, but beware, the fee (about 8 €)! A few dollars in his pocket can still be useful, especially at the airport, the courses are extremely poor. VISA works quite well. Disadvantage: If you pay with VISA you can haggle bad.

Hygiene: Better than expected, everything is very clean.
Hotels: We have pre-booked via the Internet and confirmed by phone, all without problems. Out of season there are often discounts of up to 30% with American Express a little less. We were excited from the beds (hard and easy) well, maybe we were extremely lucky. Breakfast was adequate everywhere, and always good knots, there has never been health problems, even with fruit

Bad experiences we have, however, made with the juice Zumo, which is offered in the streets … more hands off!

Food: There are many good vegetarian restaurants, the prices are unbeatable. A good substantial meal you get already for 2-3 €. Water must almost always order extra, but there are no problems when you bring your own bottle. When purchasing water on the road you should always take care that the slide is original, and often the bottles are refilled with unclean water.

Shopping: In Cuzco there are many inexpensive arts and crafts markets, particularly in the vicinity of the station. The famous market of Pisac is also recommended. Action is required! The half is almost always. But be careful! For really good product (Alpaca) should go into the textile business in the Avenida Sol in Cuzco, a portion of the proceeds will be paid to the women weavers in the villages.

Transport: We have tried everything. The small planes are more or less on time, the majors are ok. It is best to buy the tickets from the airlines themselves without intermediaries – cheaper.
When the bus transportation, there is a two-class society, that foreigners pay more than locals. There are buses for locals and tourist buses, but no matter, some agencies are trying to verhöckern local buses as tourist buses. Keep your eyes peeled! But whatever the damage is low at these prices. Even with complaints, and if you threaten with the police, the boys remain stubborn. (Compania JULSA).

Apopros through with complaints, actually, you can complain about everything, they just always try to do their thing, but certainly not malicious. Without objection, we have our promised rebates after they had “forgot” to get reimbursed.
Hotel rooms, we were able to exchange even without surcharges. So just do not be shy: Does your mouth!

Train is cheap and convenient. The Micros are a special case, cheap but in any case.

Tip: Expect all, we have been in restaurants so between 5-10% of the price. Some guides that we were for days on the road course, much more. For taxi drivers are not tipped. If it is best to negotiate the price beforehand.
All in all a very orderly and relatively safe country with misleading a lot of nature and very kind and hospitable people.
